Well Being and Inclusion

At our school, every child is known, valued, and supported. Pastoral care, wellbeing, safeguarding, and inclusion are at the heart of our ethos and underpin all aspects of school life. We believe that children learn best when they feel safe, happy, respected, and confident. We are proud to have been rated Good in recognition of our strong practices in these areas, reflecting our ongoing commitment to providing a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all students.

We have a dedicated Designated Safeguarding Lead and a Health & Safety Lead, and we believe that student care is a shared responsibility. All staff—from teachers and administrators to support staff, cleaners, and drivers—receive regular training to ensure the safety, wellbeing, and protection of every child in our care.

Pastoral Care

Where Every Child Feels Safe and Valued

Pastoral care is the support a school provides to look after students’ wellbeing, happiness, and personal development. It means making sure children feel safe, cared for, listened to, and supported, not just academically but also emotionally and socially.
Pastoral care helps students with friendships, behaviour, confidence, and any worries they may have, so they can enjoy school and do their best. In simple terms, pastoral care is about looking after the whole child, not just their learning.

Our pastoral care system ensures that each student receives consistent guidance, care, and encouragement throughout their learning journey.

  1. Strong, trusting relationships between students, teachers, and staff, supported by our small campus environment, which creates a family feel and enables close relationships and strong awareness of each child.
  2. Class teachers who closely monitor both academic progress and personal development, supported by the Middle Leadership Team (MLT), Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
  3. Regular check-ins to support students’ emotional, social, and behavioural needs and our school counsellor, who is also the Designated Safeguarding Leader
  4. A positive school culture built on kindness, respect, responsibility, and safety, where students feel confident to share concerns and seek support.

We work in close partnership with parents, staff, and students to ensure that concerns are identified early and that support is personalised to meet the needs of every child.

Wellbeing

Healthy Minds and Bodies, Thriving Learners

Good emotional and physical health is the foundation of effective learning. We promote a balanced approach to support students’ mental, emotional, social, and physical wellbeing.

  1. A dedicated school counsellor supports students individually, in small groups and overall.
  2. Wellbeing lessons, workshops, and assemblies focusing on topics such as but not limited to resilience, self-esteem, positive relationships, and online safety.
  3. Opportunities for students to share their voice, express feelings, and feel heard.
  4. Programs and activities that encourage healthy lifestyles, mindfulness, and personal growth.

Our goal is to create happy, confident learners who feel supported, respected, and empowered to thrive both in and beyond school.

Our Safeguarding Commitment

Everyone in our school community has a responsibility to support the protection of children. We are fully committed to ensuring that all students are safe, protected from harm, and supported in a secure environment.

  1. A Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and trained safeguarding team
  2. A physically safe and hygienic school environment with regular cleaning and maintenance
  3. Monitored bus and gate dispersal, live bus tracking, and ID cards that mark attendance and notify parents
  4. Safe recruitment practices to ensure every adult working in the school is suitable
  5. Strong communication with parents and external agencies when required

All staff, from teachers to support staff, cleaners, and drivers, share responsibility for safeguarding.

Safeguarding Principles

    1. Awareness and Education: All staff are educated to understand the categories of harm for students and their duty of care to notice potential harm.
    2. Empowerment: Staff are empowered to voice and act in the best interests of the child and take appropriate action if concerns arise with the support of relevant positions within the school.
    3. Knowing Our Children: Staff know students well and provide timely support to those at risk of harm or in need of support.
    4. Student Voice: Children are encouraged and empowered to share their thoughts, opinions, and beliefs within a safe school environment.
    5. Risk Awareness: Students are educated on managing risk, identifying harmful behaviours, and seeking help when needed of any kind.

Safe Workforce: We ensure every adult working with or for the school is safe to do so and appropriately trained with relevant workshops, materials and resources.

Together, these commitments and principles create a vigilant, supportive, and secure environment where every child can thrive.

Inclusion and Diversity

Celebrating Every Child, Empowering Every Voice

We are proud of our inclusive school community and celebrate the diversity of our students and families. Inclusion is central to our ethos, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed and feel valued.

We believe that fostering inclusion strengthens our community and helps every child reach their full potential.

Working in Partnership

Pastoral care, wellbeing, safeguarding, and inclusion are most effective when schools and families work together. We encourage open communication and value the trust parents place in us. Together, we create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where every child feels they belong and is empowered to succeed.
