Specialist Subjects

Developing skills for life

Our Specialist Subjects enrich the core UK Curriculum and support the development of confident, well-rounded learners. Taught by specialist teachers, subjects such as PE, PSHE, Art, ICT and French build essential life skills alongside academic learning.

Physical Education (PE)

Physical Education promotes physical fitness, coordination, teamwork and a lifelong love of healthy activity.

What we do:

  1. Structured lessons aligned with the UK National Curriculum for PE
  2. Development of fundamental movement skills in early years and primary
  3. Team sports, individual challenges and fitness activities
  4. Emphasis on fair play, resilience and cooperation
  5. PE supports physical health, improves concentration and builds confidence

  7. Skills that extend far beyond the sports field

PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education)

PSHE equips students with the knowledge, skills and values needed to lead safe, healthy and responsible lives.

What we do:

  1. Age-appropriate lessons linked to UK PSHE frameworks
  2. Focus on wellbeing, relationships, emotional literacy, and personal safety
  3. Discussions around respect, responsibility, and decision-making
  4. Support for character education and positive behaviour
  5. PSHE helps students understand themselves and others, manage emotions, and make informed choices
  6. Plays a key role in nurturing confident, respectful, and socially responsible individuals

Art

Art encourages creative expression, imagination and visual communication.

What we do:

  1. Exploration of drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed media
  2. Study of artists, techniques and cultural influences
  3. Opportunities for self-expression and creative problem-solving
  4. Links to themes across the UK Curriculum
  5. Art develops creativity, fine motor skills and critical thinking
  6. Allows students to express ideas and emotions while building confidence
  7. Builds appreciation for creativity and culture

ICT (Information and Communication Technology)

ICT develops digital literacy and prepares students for a technology‑driven world.

What we do:

  1. Lessons aligned with the UK Computing Curriculum
  2. Introduction to coding, digital research and safe internet use
  3. Development of problem-solving and logical thinking skills
  4. Responsible and ethical use of technology
  5. ICT equips students with essential digital skills for learning and future careers
  6. Enhances creativity, collaboration and critical thinking
  7. Promotes online safety and responsibility

French

What it is: French introduces students to a modern foreign language and a new culture.

What we do:

  1. Listening, speaking, reading and writing activities
  2. Vocabulary building through songs, games and conversations
  3. Cultural awareness linked to Francophone countries
  4. Teaching aligned with UK language learning expectations
  5. Learning a foreign language improves communication skills, memory and cultural understanding
  6. Builds confidence and opens students’ minds to global perspectives

Our Approach

All Specialist Subjects are carefully planned to complement the UK Curriculum and support the holistic development of every child. Through engaging lessons and specialist teaching, we aim to inspire curiosity, confidence and a love of learning across all areas of school life.
